An infinity pool works wonders for mindfulness with nothing to see or to distract from the moment. The gentle rhythms of the water gliding over my body as I swam, effortlessly. Moving towards nothingness, my breath evidence of being. The rays of sunshine stroking, cushioning my skin.
I was 294 metres above sea level, on the 77th floor of one of Dubai’s luxurious resorts. This is a resort which is drenched in design, individuality and quality. High floor-to-ceiling windows capture the grandeur of the place along with the heightened sense of colour and appreciation. It is here that senses come alive.
Art and design play a major role. Gigantic sculptures create an ambiance of a private gallery with breath-taking pieces appearing in various locations to surprise and delight. Enchanting and mesmerizing, delicate glass flowers in blue and white are suspended from the high ceilings in the atrium. A charming, warm welcome to guests. An iconic calligraphic art piece by Emirati artist Mattar Bin Lahej adorns the outside terrace. It radiates an ethereal quality while engraving the tone of the contemporary style of modern Dubai. Sculptures bestow a nod to balance and sustainability while retaining a representation to culture and heritage.
The aroma of calm floats through all Address properties, achieved from a defined fragrance, a signature scent. Immediately recognised, the senses take note as if by association and luxurious relaxation comes to mind. Created from a combination of fragrances, these include bergamot, grapefruit, cedar wood, sea sprays, geranium, rich oakmoss, patchouli and rich vertiver roots. This scented air has become their secret autograph.
Channels of water gently spill into a labyrinth of avenues through the turquoise pool areas. Water walls flow into the stream to encourage peace and calm. Private cabanas invite private contemplation. The backdrop is a collage of mirrored glass, white and blue shaded wooden cubes and palm trees offering splintered shade. Families enjoying precious time with children and couples relax in their shared company. Time is unrushed.
The Address is conveniently located on the edge of Dubai’s Marina, a distance from the humdrum but close enough to offer enviable views. From the 77th floor, a mystic Dubai can be experienced. The soaring spire of the Burj Khalifa, the tallest building in the world, pierces through a veil of cloud. Closer and clearer is the sail boat shape of the Burj Arab, which stands on an artificial island. The iconic Ain Dubai (Dubai Eye), glints in the sun. Under this cloak of shrouded sun, the shape of the Palm can be seen harbouring the residences and hotels that now make it seem a city in itself. It is hard to believe this was once just sea and sand. Two floors down, the sights differ and the energy changes. A spacious state-of-the-art fitness centre challenges the pace while The Spa at Address soothes and revives.
There are five restaurants offering a wide variety of dishes and plates showcasing creative cuisine at its best. Metres high on the 77th floor is Zeta, specialising in Asian fusion flavours for an adult-only clientele. Le Brasil spreads along the lobby terrace offering an extensive menu of Lebanese favourites, artfully presented and delicious. Breakfast in The Restaurant is a buffet that begs time to enjoy with an array of foods to keep fit and healthy as well as to treat and enjoy – a rosewater croissant for example. On the edge of the resort is the Beach Grill, a more casual affair but non-the-less exceptional with high quality dishes. And while dining on lobster soup, scallops and the largest prawns you can imagine, the sea ruffles the soft white sands skirting the coastline allowing speedboats to nudge its shores.
It is not easy to wind down in a city that is vertiginous and frenetic but at The Address Beach Resort, drenched in unique design, there is space and private areas, memorable sunsets, punctuated with privileged views. “This is where life happens”, the motto of The Address Beach Resort. This was my Address for the time I stayed in Dubai and where my life centred on the moment, high above the clouds, high above Dubai. Holistic wellness defined.
